Las Vegan uses Seitan in as many products as we can. In terms of environmental benefits, Seitan is the product to use. Stemming from Japan originally, it has been an incredibly popular alternative for meat textures in countries such as China, South-Korea and parts of the Middle-East. In contrast to soy-based products, wheat can be cultivated at scale without doing damage to existing ecosystems. This is why Las Vegan makes a statement to use Seitan in as much of our product offering as we can.
The final product is sourced through a careful process of washing off all the starch made from gluten, the main protein of wheat. It results in a beautiful meat textured product that contains around 20-25% protein. When treated correctly during the shaping and cooking process the experience of eating this 100% plant-based product is amazing, for meat and non-meat eaters alike.
Our shall we say meatless chef? Tom van der Sluijs joined Las Vegan to embark on our world’s first delivery-only vegan restaurant concept. Plant-based cooking runs through his blood. He previously helped set up the enormous success of the Vegan Junk Food Bar in Amsterdam and is always looking for the next step in vegan recipes and cooking. The online reach that Las Vegan has with the press of a button is that next step he was looking for. We are excited to see what he can do to transform the image of vegan food for good!
